Head Brewer and partner Roger Abrahams spent over twenty five
years working in the insurance field, all the while dreaming of putting
his home brewing techniques to better use. In 1990 he met Julie Savory,
a piano tuner, landlords daughter and beer lover who happened to be
working at Mardle
Hall, she tried a pint of the homebrew and the
rest just followed. They were married soon after, and the couple spent
a year planning and setting up the brewery, Roger gave up his career
in insurance and Julie gave up her own business to devote the time
necessary.
The
original brewhouse was set up in one of die out- buildings at the
Hall using 5 barrel brewing vessels acquired from The Harviestoun
Brewery at Dollar, Scotland and the first firkins rolled out in
November '93.
Since
those days the brewplant has been upgraded twice and the brewery
has gone from strength to strength now employing an additional four
staff members who all work hard to continuously evolve the range
and styles of the beers to appeal to all tastes. Duncan Walker has
been appointed as Brewery Manager and has brought with him many
skills and new ideas. Curtis Read, Brewery Assistant, who is turning
out to be quite a good brewer in his own right, carries out the
many other aspects of producing good beer, including cask cleanliness
and cask control, which is never forgotten here at Buffy's. Drayman
Donny Adams ensures the smooth delivery of the casks to the publican
at all times.
Sales
Manager Peter Webb who is usually the first point of contact for
customers and has spent all of his working life with breweries,
is now a well known and respected face to many licensees throughout
East Anglia.
Over
the last few years Buffy's Brewery has established itself as one
of the leading brewers in the micro sector. Our fine ales have won
numerous awards at local and national level and we strive to pro-
duce the highest levels with every single cask of beer produced.
We will never compromise on quality.
Cheers.
